Cabbies in Las Vegas are notorious for jacking up fares by taking longer routes but one Las Vegas cabbie is making headlines for his honesty.
Cabbie Gerardo Gamboa had what gave the impression of one more average fare in late December, driving a 28 year-old male a boost from the Cosmopolitan to Palm's Place. The 2 didn't speak through the roughly two mile ride and every went about their business after the fare was completed, with Gamboa getting a $5 tip of a roughly $10 fare.
Gamboa noticed during his next fare that the fellow had left behind a brown paper bag that he'd forgotten, with Gamboa joking to his current ride that it probably was chocolate as he opened it to look what it was.
What it was turned out to be $300,000 in cash -- a stunning amount of cash to be absent-mindedly left behind in a cab. Some cabbies could have been tempted to skip town with the loot but Gamboa promptly turned it into the cab company he worked for, who managed to find the landlord who'd left it behind and returned the money.
His identity hasn't been revealed but apparently the 28 year-old is a widely known poker pro who regularly hits up high-stakes cash games and tournaments. It is not unusual for high-stakes poker players to address and feature access to huge sums of money nevertheless it is uncommon for considered one of them to forget it and leave large sums of money within the backseat of a cab.
